Homemade Chips Recipe
On Sunday 3/20 we had homemade chips. These are quite easy to make. You can buy 100 corn tortillas at Walmart for $2. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. You take like 5 raw tortillas and cut them up with a pizza cutter or sharp knife into 6 equal sized pie shaped pieces (cutting the stack of 5 of them all at once and ending up with 30). Then spray a cooking spray (canola oil or olive oil) onto a cookie sheet and spread out the cut up tortilla pieces. Then spray over the top of them. Now sprinkle your favorite seasoning on top. Suggestions are cinnamon and sugar, seasoned salt, cumin and chili powder, or anything else you can think of. Now put them in the oven for about 8 minutes. The tricky part is that you have to watch them carefully around the 7th minute to make sure they don't burn. They may even need to stay in until 10 or 11 minutes depending on the oven and whether it's actually finished preheated or not. Watch for slight browning and some curling of the chips. Taking them out to look at them is the best way to check to see if they're done. They will harden more as they cool off and slightly brown some more on the hot sheet. Slide them off onto a plate and let them cool before serving or storing (you don't want to put hot chips in an airtight bag or container). Let me know if you find a better set of seasonings to try. Google "homemade chips" to learn more (you can try flour tortillas but we've never done that).
